The Russian Influence, it’s very warm, very wearable and very chic! It would be hard to find anything more 1930’s,
than this stylish coat, worn with a black skirt, the effect is completed by the dashing little cossack cap. It’s
beautifully warm and not such a lengthy piece of knitting as it looks, since the wool used is thick. The little
feathered Cap is crocheted.
Original materials used Coat and Cap: 2lb. 6 ozs. (1100g) of “Zig-Zag” Sports Wool, 8 ozs. (227g) of “Kanastra”
wool. A pair No. 8 (4mm), No. 7 (4.5mm) and No. 5 (5.5mm) Beehive needles. A No. 9 (3.75mm) crochet hook. 7
buttons and a black leather belt. Cap: 3 ozs. (86g) of “Kanastra” Wool. A No. 9 (3.75mm) “Inox” crochet hook.
A feather to trim.
The ply of these wools is unknown, however based on tension, they are likely a D.K or Aran weight Astrakhan yarn.
Check the tensions before purchasing wools, as this is merely a guess as I haven’t knitted it myself.
Measurements: Bust 34, length 38 inches, sleeve seam 18.5 inches (N.B. This bust measurement will fit sizes
32-36 inches).
Tension: 5.5 sts. and 7 rows to an inch, measured over pattern on No. 8 (4mm) needles.
